Sun 6/6  – Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing “Spiritual Trainers,” a series of prompts from our very own Gary Fawver. May they enrich your ponderings over our Sunday series on Important People.

“As you read Hebrews 12:1, visualize a large track, perhaps like Eugene’s Hayward Field where the Olympic track and field trials are being held this summer. We who follow Jesus are pictured as the athletes down on the track, runners in what we often call the race of life. The fans in the grandstands watching us run are former godly athletes, that great cloud of witnesses over the centuries, our spiritual ancestors. They are cheering us on, encouraging us in our effort. I can imagine them yelling to me: ‘Way to go, Gary; hang in there; run strong. It’s not easy, but you can do it. You will finish the race. We did. Apply those tips we gave you.’

I have found over the years that the advice of these spiritual trainers has been very practical for me at my job, with my family, in my church, and in my daily life experiences. So — when you see the caption Spiritual Trainers in these Daily Prayer Prompts, be prepared to receive some intensive spiritual conditioning tips by some of the best of history’s former athletes, now trainers.

Pause right now to think of someone whose teaching or friendship has been significant to you in your walk with Christ, and thank God for that person’s training tips.”
